What Is Sterilization?

What Is Sterilization?

Sterilization is a popular method that many men and women in the world today have began having these procedures done. This type of procedure for women is also known as tubal ligation or even Essure.  For the men it is known has having a surgical vasectomy.

Couples who have had a long-term relationship and have already had all the children that they intend on having often choose to become sterilized, and some people tend to regret the decision that they have made in the future. Therefore, In having a tubal ligation the woman can go back and have a reversal performed, but if she has chosen to go with the Essure it cannot be reversed.

The Essure is a barrier method of birth control that is inserted in the vaginal area to block the fallopian tubes, where as the tubal ligation is an outpatient surgery where your doctor will either tie or cut your fallopian tubes.

A vasectomy and tubal ligation can generally be reversed but they are considered a permanent form of birth control for becoming sterilized. There are several other long-term and effective types of birth control methods beside becoming sterilized but they are not permanent.

So before you or your partner make the decision to have a sterilization procedure performed you might want to make sure that this is right for the both of you. Be sure and consult with your medical provider as well to make sure that you are a good candidate for the operation.
