What Is The Ortho Evra Patch and How Do You Use It?

The Ortho Evra Patch is another method of birth control that is reversible. It is basically one of the newest ways that hormones can be delivered into your system like the pill. These types of patches generally come three to a package, which provides you with just enough for a complete one month. Just in case one of your patches was to come off or become damaged, individual patches are also available. These Ortho Evra Patches are beige in color, square shaped and measuring less than two inches.

Just like other types of birth control Ortho Evra Patches work in the same manner, by delivering hormones into your body. The patches have two hormones, norelgestromin which is a form of the progestin and ethinyl estradiol, which is the estrogen. You will not have to change these patches on a daily basis; it needs to be worn for a full weeks time. The hormones that are in the patch will enter into your skin and reach your bloodstream. Once the hormones interact with your body it will help to prevent pregnancy by suppressing your ovulation.  It will also change the mucus that is around the opening of the uterus also known as your cervix. This way it will help to prevent the sperm from being able to enter and will help to change the lining of your uterus making it difficult for the egg to become fertilized.

The patch does not protect from STDs so other protections should also be used.
