A low dosage of synthetic etonogestrel and estrogen is slowly released into your body with the NuvaRing. This helps to protect you from pregnancy for up to one month. Just like other birth control methods it helps to prevent the egg from being released. It will also thickens your cervical mucus that will make it very difficult for the sperm to swim to the egg along with the uterus lining becoming much thinner. Therefore, making it difficult to fertilize the egg. The walls that are inside the vagina tend to absorb both hormones.
