There are several disadvantages to the use of a diaphragm that many people in today's society have experienced. Some of the disadvantages that the people have discovered is that in order to be fitted for the device you have to have a professional fit at a clinic or within your doctor's office.

 
People have discovered different side effects to the pill or other contraceptives so they have turned to the diaphragm as an alternative. But unlike any other method of birth control, a diaphragm will not help to protect a woman from STDs.  Therefore, another type of contraceptive must be used.

 
The diaphragm also increases your chances of getting a serious infection also known as toxic shock syndrome. You should never leave this small device in for no more than 48 hours at the most. When using the diaphragm you are also at risk for getting a yeast infection or even a urinary tract infection.

If you are an individual that does not like the idea of inserting it into your vagina area, then the diaphragm would not be a good method of birth control for you. You will have to insert the device into the vagina to help prevent yourself from becoming pregnant. Some people find that it is difficult to insert the diaphragm correctly.

 
Also you are taking a chance when using one that it might slip out of place during intercourse and then you might not be protected if you are not using another back up source.
