What Are Disadvantages of the NuvaRing?
The NuvaRing has several disadvantages that many women have unfortunately experienced while using this form of birth control.
Some of the side effects that they have ran across that are not serious are headaches, breast tenderness, changes in their moods, nausea, gaining weight or even losing it, an increase in vaginal discharge, vaginal infections or irritations, along with breakthrough bleeding. These side effects tend to go away once you have used the NuvaRing for at least 2 to 3 months.
Most women that have complained about the NuvaRing state that they are disappointed that they cannot use a cap, shield, nor diaphragm as another method of contraception as back-up while they have the ring inserted.
If you are a person that has a history of depression then the NuvaRing might not be the best birth control method for you. Sometimes the ring might worsen your depression therefore you will have to discontinue the use.
NuvaRing will not protect you from HIV or any other common STDs so you might want to use a condom if your partner thinks that you might be at risk.
A back up method for contraceptive is highly recommended when you begin a new ring.
Some insurance companies might pay for this form of birth control while others may not. The NuvaRing generally cost about $40.00 per month or up to $400.00 a year. So if you think that this is the perfect form of contraception then you will have to pay the extra price amount. |
