What Is A Cervical Cap?
The Cervical Cap is a thimble-shaped, latex device that is inserted into the woman's vagina. The cap will snugly fit right over her cervix. With the help of natural suction the cap will then stay in place.
A Cervical Cap is known to help with providing a barrier to help block the sperm from being able to enter into the woman's uterus to help prevent fertilization from happening. Within 8 hours from having sex the cap can then be taken out. The spermicidal cream or even jellies that are used with the caps will help to kill the sperm.
Just like any other method of birth control, the cap is 91% effective on most females that have never had a child and only 74% effective for those females who have had children.
Depending on how the cap fits will depend on how effective it is. They all come in different sizes to fit each individual female. The family physician that you visit will need to perform an examination to fit you correctly.
When the fitting is performed your physician will guide you through how your cap should be inserted. Be sure that you practice how to insert and even how to remove your cap before you have sexual intercourse with your partner. It might be awkward to you at first but once you practice a couple of times it will become easy and you will get use to it. However, cervical caps should not be used during your menstrual cycle.
